Constructing a YMCA fit for the future

After Keares Electric finishes installing all of the mechanisms and completes every phase of work for the West Chester YMCA's new facility on Airport Road, the edifice will boast state of the art amenities fit for a futuristic building.

"The workout facility is rather impressive," said Project Manager Brian Marinari. "Each one of the treadmills will have a high definition LCD monitor that you can plug your headphones into while you’re working out."

Along with the treadmills, the other pieces of cardiovascular equipment contained within the gym will boast the LCD monitors, as well. "We are instituting an extensive cable television system that will run cable lines to each piece of exercise equipment," said Marinari.

While individuals are entranced in their workouts and the programs playing on the LCD monitors, their concentration will not fracture by reason of concern over their welfare, or their children’s, due to the implementation of high-tech protection measures.

"We are also installing a closed circuit system for surveillance and an access control system for the childcare area of the edifice," said Marinari. "The surveillance system is going over a CAT5E cable instead of over a coax signal, such as in an old system. This system can therefore run the power for the camera and the signal over the same cable."

The capabilities to perform, and the quality of the job carried out, of such high-tech work on the physical fitness facility are some of the attributes that position Keares Electric as an industry leader in the electrical contracting field.

"Whether a job is high-tech, low-tech or somewhere in between does not matter to our company," said Marinari. "If someone can conjure a project, we can fulfill the needs."

Keares is also installing all of the power and lighting for the YMCA, and the implementation of these aspects of the project are led by foreman Chris Reilly.

"This is the largest building that I have worked on so far," said Reilly. "There are a lot of fine details to this job, but the job is running smoothly."

Also heading up the job with Reilly is veteran foreman Lee Miller, who is overseeing the installation of all electrical services, panels and distribution.

Work on the center began in late fall of last year and the project, whose general contractor is Pancoast and Clifford, has an expected completion date in September of 2008.
